A Delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Visited ACEM and Explored New Path for Industry-Academic Research Collaboration in the AI Era 2026-07-21

On the afternoon of July 18, Dean Chen Fangruo and Associate Dean Sang Dawei met a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea headed by National Assembly members Gihyoung OH, Jaebong SONG, Soomin PARK, as well as Kisik KIM, President of National Assembly Futures Institute, Euijoon YOON, President of National Academy of Engineering of Korea, Yeongjun YEO, Assistant Professor of Gachon University, Heesoo YOO, Team Leader of National Assembly Futures Institute, Wonyoung CHO, Research Fellow of National Assembly Futures Institute.

 As the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) was being held in Shanghai, Dean Chen Fangruo first extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. Then, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on the industry-academic research collaboration, talent management, and Sino-Korean potential cooperation on education in the Age of AI. 微信图片_20260720170554_31_180.jpgIn recent years, with the vigorous development of China's AI industry and the accelerated deployment of cutting-edge technologies such as large language models and intelligent agents, ACEM has proactively engaged in the AI wave, not only focusing on the research of re-shaping of business and the economy by AI, but also pursuing innovations in talent education, aiming to break down disciplinary barriers and nurture leading talents equipped with interdisciplinary "AI + Management" competencies. The MTT program run by the ACEM stands as a successful example of such industry-education integration. Furthermore, Dean Chen Fangruo introduced the distinct models of industry-academic research collaboration at both the university and college levels.


National Assembly member Gihyoung OH, on behalf of the delegation, expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended by ACEM and highly commended ACEM's explorations at the intersection of business education and technological innovation. He noted that the Republic of Korea also places great emphasis on the driving role of AI in economic and social development. The delegation's visit coincided with the WAIC, and he was deeply impressed by the scale effects and innovative vitality of China's AI industry, China and South Korea share broad prospects for cooperation in areas such as AI-empowered manufacturing, fintech, and business education. In particular, he highlighted that Shanghai Jiao Tong University has built a solid bridge between fundamental research and industrial application, and such integrated "industry-academia-research" model offers valuable lessons.


Chen Hailei, Asia Affairs Specialist of Division of International Cooperation and Exchange, SJTU and Chen Jing, Vice Director of International Office of ACEM, also attended the meeting.


Following the meeting, the Delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea had a tour in ACEM Pao Sui-Loong Library and SJTU Xuhui Campus.
